You might be wondering why we have a countdown to July in our office, and why I am giddy with excitement. I am taking the MONTH of July off. Haha, I am going to just go ahead and laugh at that statement and clarify. There is NO such thing as time off when you own a business, there are moments, hours, and maybe sometimes extended periods of time never exceeding 24 hours where my mind and heart are consumed by other things, however this business is my baby, and it never really leaves me EVER. It's a reality I never wanted see when I started a business. Owning a business that is really selling YOU and the talent you were blessed with comes with the pressure of knowing what it takes to deliver quality products again and again. Time OFF becomes vital to continued success. However you may or may not know that July 1st marks 1 WHOLE year that I've lived in Greenville, and since I moved here I haven't stopped moving in fact I've had a front row seat to 214 portrait sessions, 20 major events + parties, shot 14 weddings {all over the world}, and countless other things, all totaling 198,560 clicks on my cameras combined. I only tell you this as some perspective as I make the choice to not take on any new clients in the month of July. If you've ever owned a business you know there are many parts, but they can be put into two categories. Working IN your business, and working ON your business. So will I work in the month of July? Absolutely, I can't help it. This business is my passion, my heart and after almost three years, my life. My hope and prayer for the month of July is to take a step back, regain the BIG picture, work a little less, enjoy the pool a little more, and recharge my batteries to come back swinging this fall. What does this mean for you, my client? We won’t be keeping “office hours” or "studio hours", but my amazing assistant will be in the office answering phone calls, texts, emails etc. If you want to book a session, or have a question about your photos DON'T HESITATE to call, text or email, just know we will do our best to communicate with you clearly, but we ask for your patience and understanding during this important month. I can’t thank you all enough for this amazing FIRST year in Greenville, and the wonderful joy you all have brought to my life. I’ve laughed, cried, and cherished every single click.

I spend a vast majority of my time capturing unforgettable moments for hundreds of people. I see their baby walk for the very first time, their very first family photo, walk their daughter down the isle, their final photo together, the list could go on for days. I have often resented that my family always assumed I would take pictures of their events and gatherings and even have made them hire me to bring my camera on the property. Now in my Uncle's final days I am searching every harddrive for more photos of his sweet smile, more memories of times spent together. It's a humbling reality that I have failed to capture the lives of the people I love the most. So as I pack my camera for whatever the next week has in store of me and my family, I know now more than ever its time to live my purpose. I was blessed with a talent that has made me very successful, but now more than ever it's time to start capturing the people I love the very most. Thank you for all your prayers!!!

Friday afternoon as I am winding down my day in the office, I got an email that the Commerce Club was featured this month in the Upstate Business Journal. I was SO excited; I ran to my computer and opened the article, I was jumping up and down in my office when I realized that now for the third time a photo I took was printed in the Journal. I quickly took a screenshot and was getting ready to blast my excitement all over the place. I blew up my screenshot only to realize the photo I took was credited to another photographer. I immediately dropped to the floor in the middle of my office balling my eyes out, how could this have happened AGAIN, how could someone else get credit for the hard work I did?! I have been SO proud of those pictures I took for the Commerce Club, and have gotten a significant amount of praise for them.In my haste and anger I looked up the publishers number, and at 4pm on a Friday afternoon I was prepared to yell at every person I could. Two voicemails, and an operator later I realize I have the photographer’s number in my Rolodex, and I actually knew the guy they gave credit to. Heart racing, black out angry, balling my eyes out I take a deep breath and called him. Sweetest man alive, so thankful that he took the time to let me be angry for this mistake, but also sincerely apologetic that this had happened for now the third time. I felt better when we got off the phone, but still so mad that someone else got credit for my work. I sat in the middle of my office with all these articles in front of me still crying, when it hit me like a moving semi truck...
IT'S NOT ABOUT ME.
wow that's hard to write, especially considering I was the one who took that photo, but it was the reality check I so desperately needed. I haven't been blessed with this career and all these opportunities to bring glory to myself, no in fact my purpose is SO MUCH BIGGER.
I took the next few moments looking at all these photos in my studio I had taken realizing it was never about me, and this angered me so much because I had allowed my talent, and purpose in this life even momentarily touch my identity. I've allowed all the awesome things people say about my work, and me, I allowed being published in magazines and journals, and on websites get to my head. I actually started to believe this was about me. It's a human mistake, but one I was thankful Friday to come to terms with. I was born with a talent, and I made the decision long ago to walk out my purpose on this earth whatever that meant. It hasn't been an easy journey, but I wouldn't change a single minute of it. It's a fine line we walk as artists, being confident in the talent and skills we were blessed with, all while realizing IT'S NOT ABOUT ME!
so I challenge you in this, don't get so caught up in yourselves, and the good work you are doing here in this life, that you miss the BIGGER picture.

I have been deeply grateful for all the opportunities that this business has presented me. I ask myself everyday if I'm dreaming, I truly can't even believe it myself. The last few months have been crazy, hectic and I've been trying to navigate it all. Europe's been amazing and such a chance for me to catch up on sleep, spend some MUCH needed time by myself, and my precious family, not to mention shoot the MOST amazing wedding.

*disclaimer , ALL my clients from the most lavish wedding, to the sweet family portraits are MY priorities. So I can insure I am my BEST when I talk to you, shoot with you, and having client meetings I have NEW office hours. I only ask that as my clients you respect me to respond to you ONLY during office hours. This might take some time adjusting, but I promise this will yield better results in the long run. Ignoring ain't my style so don't even worry :)

We have almost completed 3 whole weeks in our NEW home. Though we LOVE Greenville and it has been so fun to finally call it home, this journey has taken me to places I never ever knew I could go, dreams I never knew I was capable of dreaming, and challenged me to really figure out what is important to EmilieCarol Photography & Me.
Now if you are the grammar police you might be alerting the officials that I started off saying WE and now I am saying I, this was intentional. A year a half in to this whole business owning thing I am learning that most days WE are a package deal, and when you create everything yourself, you can break grammar rules- so get over it. ;)
For me owning this business was never something I sat down and dreamed about. It was an opportunity that God brought to my feet. I saw the potential and took off running with it 395948945 miles an hour.
So if you know me you probably know that when I get an idea I take on the characteristics of a tornado. Tornados MOVE straight at whatever they are headed towards, sometimes their paths even change after they are already created, but they never loose momentum. They move 60+ miles per hour and whatever is in their way is either sucked up for their cause, or completely destroyed. Well I'm the same way. I don't stop till I get what I want even if what I want changes halfway through the process {which let me give you permission right now, it's totally OKAY}.
It's my greatest artribute and should take credit for all my success to date, HOWEVER I have also been blessed by many HONEST people that have dared to intersect my tornado and help me reassess my path.
success is simple. really simple.
never give up. never stop moving. never underestimate a person's ability to change everything. always network. be a nice person.
so all this to say. the house I thought I wanted more than anything is now a house at the bottom of my list. I let my dreams settle, which is stupid because when you are up there dreaming you might as well dream for it ALL.
todays agenda: meet with a realtor. chamber lunch. tour a house. tour a house. tour a house. tour a house. dinner with my best friend.
never stop moving, but allow the possibility that your plan B was never gods and it is SO okay to reroute and dream bigger. really big.

my favorite people in greenville piled in a car and road tripped to rockmont for the afternoon.
I owe a lot to this guy. he is not only my sweet uncle, but he is the first person to put a really expensive camera in my hand and trust me to do good things. he never stops loving, he never stops believing in me, and he is always so excited to see me.

We met while we were both teachers at the same school – the students got involved in passing notes and sending me flowers from Tommy.
Unfortunately, we had no wedding photographer. We met in January – didn’t date until May and then married in August 1979. Yes, we only dated 3 months before we married. We only could afford pics that family members took. There were only about 20 people our wedding – mostly family and coworkers.

She lives in Texas, plays a mean game of boggle, always pushes the "Do Not Push" button, and makes a great sandwich. Photography interested her, so she decided to make a hobby out of it about six years ago. While doing so, she was also employed at an advertising agency and had been a Photoshop artist for about 15 years {she still has a copy of 1.0 on floppy for you history buffs out there}.
This is her story of how she fell in love with photography:
In the beginning of her career, she took pictures of anything she could get her hands on: maternity, newborns, corporate events, seniors, and so on. After two years and thousands of photographs taken, she created a book and a website to try to attract clientele. Her work was good, but she still wasn't satisfied. Jody decided it was time to add some definition to herself as a photographer and choose to place special emphasis on relationships and weddings and all things love related. Jody is committed to working really hard at constantly improving her work to satisfy her clients.

Growing up we didn't always have the greatest relationship, so the biggest blessing to me has been having him by my side through this journey of owning a business. He knows FIRST hand the ups and downs of being a business owner, and has so much grace for me as a daughter, boss, and friend. I think the things I really love about him the most is that he has the BIGGEST heart, the funniest sense of humor and works harder than any man I know.

Carol is a Lynchburg, Virginia native with a Bachelors in Social Work from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. She lives with her husband Kurt in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and is best and most proudly known as E-Rock + EmilieCarol's Mama. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is nothing in the whole world she wouldn't do for her kids, she proves this time and time again. I love what she brings to our team, she really keeps Daddy and Me in line, and it always helping out in anyway she can. She is a pro at last minute hairdos, flowers, and coffee runs. It's truly an honor to travel with her and have her by my side, she is my biggest fan, and my rock in so many ways.

Meet our newest EmilieCarol Photography team member!!!
Anna is a Clemson Graduate, and currently lives in Simpsonville, South Carolina with her husband of ALMOST a year TJ. The moment I met Anna I knew we would be great friends, we met in college and quickly became the best of friends. Anna has the biggest heart of any one person I have ever known, her relentless love of the people in her life is such a blessing. She has always had a personal blog on the side, which of course I have stalked for many years. Anna's writing is beautiful, thought provoking, and always leaves you with a HUGE smile on your face. I can't even tell you how excited I am to have her on my team, I know that she will knock it out of the park, and I just can't wait to see all the great things she does.
Anna is head of all things {ec} blog related, she will be writing, editing, and managing the blog. She is giving me one the biggest gifts in the whole world, to be able to do what I love and focus my energy on doing what I love.

Deanna Morse Morton {office assistant/ bookkeeping}
Deanna is the owner of {Your right hand Assistant} she does personal assistant work all over the southeast as well as planning weddings and events. She currently lives in Greenwood, South Carolina with her husband and their CUTE daughter Allison. Deanna holds down the fort she handles all my bookkeeping, photo sales, and invoices. I have LOVED getting to know her and her sweet family, I am so thankful to have someone so great taking care of business while I'm away, it really allows me to be present in the moment and know that I can trust the person taking care of the things while I'm away.
How CUTE is her little girl?!!! I mean seriously...

Easy to contact
I have a strict 24hour rule; I personally guarantee you will hear something from me within 24hours. I welcome questions, comments, concerns, and anything else. My email + phone number are my personal lines, so you will talk to ME every time. I do travel a lot, so I may not be able to answer all your questions at that moment, but I will let you know I got your message and an approximate time to get back to you. You are always welcome to email me and ask the status of your pictures.
Planning a wedding is stressful, communicating with your photographer shouldn’t be.
face to face
I require that we meet at least once face-to-face prior to your BIG day. {More is always better, especially if you are booking more than 6months in advance} I believe it is crucial to the success of your day, to build a relationship with your photographer. I want to take you out for coffee, get to know you, hear all your plans and answer any questions you have concerning your wedding photography. I also require we at least go over your contracts and policies face to face, for your protection as well as mine.
1st right of refusal
regardless of where you are in your planning process if you inquire about a date at all, I will give you first right to refuse it, meaning if I get an inquiry for your date I will allow you to put a deposit on that date before giving it away.
Life especially while planning a wedding is busy, so I want to honor you and your date by asking before I give it away.
It’s ME every time
I, EmilieCarol am personally at every event, every meeting, and on every phone call. I do NOT outsource my booking, editing, or shooting. I professionally edit every single final image you receive. I always have assistants, and people helping me, but I guarantee that on your wedding day, you will see my smiling face.
Contracts, contracts, contracts
I am firm believer in contracts, for events BIG or small you will be provided with a contract prior to signing it. I encourage you to read over it, even with someone. It’s important in any kind of business relationship for your protection, as well as mine.

Yesterday I got to spend the the afternoon with this amazing couple. I have loved them since we first met, and I could NOT wait for their engagement session. We started out at Freedom Park in Myers Park Charlotte, and ended at The Met, which is my new favorite place. They are so sweet together, always laugh and have fun, and are very easy going. <--- recipe for GREAT photos ;) Not to mention they were troopers through the whole thing, I am now REALLY excited for their BIG day in september!

]]>This weekend we got to be apart of a really fun event in Asheville, North Carolina! No Vote, No Voice was put together by some of my dear friends from college. They started the campaign to educate people about amendment one, to find out more about amendment one visit this site {www.protectallncfamilies.org}.
The event took place on eleven on grove in downtown Asheville. The party{booth} made its first night club appearance and it was REALLY fun. I loved that atmosphere, and the pictures turned out really well!
